Free Live Quiz Maker

A live quiz maker lets you write scored questions and have a room answer them on their phones while you watch a leaderboard fill in. With ShuffleTurn you set the points per question, share a link or QR code, and players join with no signup.

  • Free to use
  • Points per question
  • Leaderboard with CSV export
  • No timer, no speed bonus

What you get when you make a live quiz here

You write the questions yourself. Each one has between 2 and 12 answer options, one of them marked correct, and a point value you pick. Players answer on their own phones, and the leaderboard adds up their points as the quiz moves along. At the end you can export the results and the leaderboard as CSV.

A session can hold up to 100 questions, though a good live quiz is far shorter. Because quiz is just one question type, you can drop in a word cloud to warm people up, a rating question to ask how it went, or an open text question for suggestions. Everything runs from one join link.

Limits you should know before you start

There is no countdown timer on individual questions. You decide when a question is over and move on. That suits a classroom, a team session or a pub-style night where conversation is half the point, but it is not what you want if the tension of a ticking clock is the whole game.

There is also no speed bonus. Two players who both answer correctly earn the same points no matter who tapped first. If you want speed to matter, you can say so out loud and move on after the first few hands, though the scoring itself will not reward it.

We have not load-tested the app for very large events, and it runs on a single realtime worker. Small and medium groups are the sensible use today. We also do not offer slide decks, themes, custom branding or imports from other quiz tools, so you type or paste your own questions.

How this compares with game-show style quizzes

Game-show style quiz tools are built around the feel of a game, usually with a clock and some reward for answering fast. ShuffleTurn is closer to a scored poll. It skips that tension for something simpler, with no account for the host or players, no per-question clock and a pace you control. If you want the arcade feel, a game-style tool is the better fit. If you want a calm, fair quiz for a team or class, this is a reasonable choice. For prices and plan limits on the other side, check Kahoot's own site, or see our Kahoot comparison page.

Where a calm, scored quiz works well

One tool for standups, classrooms, Q&A, and more

🎓

Revision in class

Review a unit with ten questions at two points each. Pause on any question that most of the room got wrong and talk it through before moving on.

👥

Team onboarding

Test what new hires picked up in week one with a short quiz about tools, people and processes, then use the leaderboard for a light-hearted prize.

🍕

Social nights

Run a movie, music or local trivia round at a party or pub. Raise the points on the last question to keep the standings open.

📚

Training and compliance refreshers

Check understanding after a session. Export the results as CSV and review which questions tripped people up.

🎄

Holiday and offsite games

Paste the link in a video call chat and let remote and in-room players compete in one quiz.

Frequently asked questions

Is the live quiz maker really free?
Yes. You can build and run a live quiz at no cost, and neither you nor your players need to sign up by default. A paid plan is planned but is not available today. If that changes, this page will say so. Hosts can optionally require names or login for a session.
How do players join a live quiz?
Players open the join link, scan the QR code, or type the short join code. It works in a normal phone browser, so there is nothing to install. You can show the code and QR on a shared screen or paste the link into a chat for remote players.
How does scoring work?
You choose how many points each question is worth when you build the quiz. Players earn those points for a correct answer and the leaderboard ranks them by total. There is no speed bonus, so a fast answer and a slow answer on the same question score the same.
Is there a countdown timer on each question?
No. ShuffleTurn quizzes do not have per-question timers. You control the pace by moving through the questions yourself, so you can wait for a slow room or keep a fast one moving. If you need a hard time limit, read it out loud and move on when time is up.
How many questions can a quiz have?
A poll session can hold up to 100 questions, and a quiz is a question type inside that. Each question has 2 to 12 answer options and you mark the correct one. Most live quizzes are shorter, usually 10 to 20 questions, so people stay engaged.
Can I export the leaderboard?
Yes. The host can export quiz results and the quiz leaderboard as CSV, which is handy for classroom records, prize lists or a quick spreadsheet check. We do not make promises about how long session data is kept, so export anything you need soon after the quiz ends.
Can I mix quiz questions with polls and word clouds?
Yes. Quiz is one of several question types alongside multiple choice, rating, open text, word cloud and ranking. You can put an icebreaker word cloud first, run the scored questions, and finish with a rating question, all in one session.
